  • Spent the day moving into the new place in Diemen. I was a little anxious about it because It feels a bit further out from Amsterdam, because it's on the 8th floor, because it has less separation than the places we spent the last 6 months in, and because it felt a bit dark the last time we visited. But after having spent a few hours there today I'm much less worried. We moved the furniture around and the new layout feels much better - the table is now beside the window which actually does get a lot of light later in the day. And the couch is right beside the kitchen now which feels like it makes more sense. I can see it being a great place to entertain - board game nights, watching sports & even working.

  • Now that it feels like somewhere we're going to enjoy spending time, it seems like it has pretty much everything: Right beside a train station (12 minutes to Amsterdam central), two car parks (with spaces big enough for the van), near to Neo's school, epic couch (with 65" tv on the way), enough beds to have guests/Family, and super affordable.

  • There's still a few things to do to finish it off - paint the walls, upgrade all the lights, add some rugs to the floors and paintings to the walls, but overall we're both super psyched to get in

  • Did a little bit of backlog clean-up earlier - realized there are quite a few open tasks, potential releases and directions to move in. My conclusion is that for now the smartest things to focus on are 1. Retention (ensuring the 3 people currently using it are set up to get the most out of and using it regularly), and 2. Activation (make it easier & smoother to on-board more people)

  • Tasks

  • Add pages for Tasks, Upcoming releases and shipped releases

  • V1 Metabase user dashboard

  • Fix navigation on mobile

  • Bug: Editing categories & editing targets erroneously triggers a shimmer effect

  • David N onboarding

    • Had a great call with David - overall he gave Clerk a 9/10 despite some pretty gnarly bugs. He turned out to be an ideal person to onboard as he's been following a pretty similar system manually for the last few years.

    • Some takeaways and ideas:

    • How It Works needs to be simplified - move category/classification description later. Too much information to digest at start

    • Would love to have targets per category and/or for periods longer than a month.

    • Would love to be able to "link" transactions - e.g. this transfer from friend was related to this Uber.

    • Would love to use on mobile & have support for widgets.

    • Pricing: Would see it as being in the sub $10 range. Would pay for it (and I don't say that a lot)

    • Privacy: Allowing people to self host for privacy purposes could be an idea as it's pretty sensitive data

    • (sometimes Nordigen can have an account classified as current that's actually savings.)

    • Need to remove/hide admin access to transactions now we're onboarding external users. Also potentially look at encrypting/obfuscating in some way.

    • Bug: Editing categories & editing targets erroneously triggers a shimmer effect

    • Idea: Let me see a selection of my transactions as I'm creating new categories

    • On transaction edit form - two dropdowns show "Please select" but neither has a label

  • Create and implement new animated modals

  • Mock up new potential designs for "Target" panel, showing more info per pane

  • Implement beginnings of the instant-load effect for the middle scroller, to give the feeling of snappiness when a link is clicked

  • Play with design for new low-fidelity section

  • Write up "How Clerk Works"
